Emotional Intelligence is the ability of an individual to understand his/her own emotions as well as those of others and his/her own willingness to react and interact accordingly. Emotional Intelligence of the employees will impact on the productivity of the organization on various significant factors like job challenge, communication, trust, innovation and social cohesion among employees. Emotional Intelligence will help to moderate the emotions at work place among colleagues and peers which will give way for smooth functioning. It also fosters employee creativity which is very crucial for any organization to develop a competitive edge. These can be achieved through several measures such as financial incentives, work flexibility, employee welfare measures etc. Emotional Intelligence however plays a very important role in bringing about employee motivation and satisfaction. Therefore a study of Emotional Intelligence, its role and impact on the performance of the employees as well as the organization needs a thorough study. This study will present several points which an organization can practically implement in its HRM policy for better effectiveness. It was also found that there is no better way to understand a phenomenon than to study the reality. Therefore we decided to conduct a study to understand the role played by Emotional Intelligence in the success of an organization. This paper aims at listing out several practical situations in which Emotional Intelligence has played a big role in avoiding a problem and has bought about a high degree of feel good factor. This study was conducted among employees of Undergraduate and Postgraduate colleges of Bangalore city. A questionnaire was prepared and administered for this purpose. This paper will be structured on the following lines. Introduction, description about the study, a list of educational institutions where the study was conducted, findings , suggestions , further scope of the study, Review of literature and bibliography.
